Brunch at Red's

One of our absolute favorite places to get brunch is at Red's Java House in the Embarcadero.  Located on Pier 30 at Bryant and Embarcadero this place is a San Francisco institution and should not be missed.  It is one of the hot spots before a Giants game, but it is just as great on a random Sunday.

The food is delicious; I highly recommend the Corn Beef Hash and Breakfast Quesadilla.  To top it off they are dog friendly.  Once you order your food head to their great back patio area for some fun in sun and a great view of the bay and the Bay Bridge where your Little B can hang out and enjoy himself and all of the great food smells that Red's provides.  And did I mention the price?  It can't be beat; you can get a double cheeseburger, fries, and a beer for under $12!!!  We hope to see you there this weekend :)

Benefits of Organic Brown Rice Flour

Some might ask why we use organic brown rice flour vs. whole wheat flour in our treats.  The first reason is to create a treat that is hypo-allergenic as wheat, corn, and soy are some of the leading causes of allergies in dogs.  However, there are many other reasons why this ingredient is so great for dog health.

1) Organic brown rice flour does not contain gluten and is highly digestible, which make it a great choice for all you pooches with digestion issues.

2) It is high in fiber and selenium which help to prevent cancer!

3) Great source of protein, vitamins, and minerals like vitamin B, niacin, calcium, iron, phosphorus and potassium.

4) Practically no fat and very little sodium.

5) Excellent complex carbohydrate that satisfies hunger with very few calories...no chubby doggies here!

If you would like your treats made with all brown rice flour we can accommodate you, just let us know!

Happy Treating!

We Love Earthbath Grooming Wipes

These wipes are a life saver!  I had no idea how high maintenance a bulldog was until we became parents to one and these are something we can't go without.  We use them on a daily basis for multiple reasons.  To clean his nose rope, to wipe his tushy and around his little nubin of a tail, to wipe his paws should he step in something yucky, to give him a quick cleaning, etc...  They are easy to store as they come in this dispenser tub and the formula is hypo-allergenic and fragrance free so it won't irritate our Little B's sensitive skin.  Mild cleansers deodorize, freshen and clean as the exotic Hawaiian Awapuhi conditions the coat and imparts a healthy shine. Aloe Vera and Vitamin E moisturize both coat and skin.

Paul Armstrong founded Earthwhile Endeavors, Inc. in 1995 after a chance encounter with three buddies in San Francisco who had developed a natural, effective pet shampoo but didn't know what to do with it. Well, Paul knew a great product when he saw one (as did his cat Miles), and he was determined to share it with pet lovers everywhere. This is how earthbath was born.

From the beginning, earthbath has been developed and manufactured in California with only the safest, finest ingredients from nature. From humble roots and a local following--based on the principles of purity and efficacy--earthbath has grown from four shampoos to a comprehensive line of totally natural shampoos, wipes, spritzes, and grooming foams that are sold and used by conscientious animal lovers across the nation and around the world.

Cricket's Daily Fix Review

We are so excited to have our very first Blog review on Cricket's Daily Fix!  On her blog she writes reviews and holds giveaways of eco friendly companies as well as spread the word on the ease of turning to greener products.  A woman after my own heart :)  She is also a strong supporter of products that are from small companies or sellers and adores hand made goods, especially if they are recycled.  It's a great place to go to read about all of the wonderful things out there that support our environment.

Her test subjects were her 3 German Shepherds (aka furbabies) and I am happy to report that the "Veggie Parm" treats did not last long!  Please read her review for yourself and thank you Cricket for your kind words!

Say Goodbye to Your Little Friends

That's right ladies and gentlemen today is the day our little boy gets neutered.  BIG DAY!  At first I thought this decision wouldn't be hard.  They were so tiny when we first got him that I figured he wouldn't miss them.  But as he grew so did they and have become a larger part of his personality than I realized.  It just won't be the same when he gets comfortable on the couch lying on his back full spread eagle anymore.  The view from the rear won't be the same either...I know it's for the best but I can't help but feel a little bad.

It will be interesting to see how his behavior changes.  Will he feel the need to mark everything?  Will dogs be a little bit friendlier to him?  Will lying on the floor like a pancake be more comfortable?  I am happy that this procedure ensures he will never have problems with testicular disease and will reduce the chance for problems with his prostate glands and cancerous growths.

We had initially planned to do this a little over a month ago, but then the whole table dragging, toe nail breaking incident occurred the week before and we couldn't bear the thought of him wearing the cone of shame longer than he had to.

So wish him luck B lovers and say goodbye to these!

Lafayette Park

If this weekend turns out to be one of those unbelievable ones where you couldn't imagine being anywhere more beautiful than right here in good ole SF.  You know the kind with cloudless skies, temps in the upper 70's, and barely any wind to speak of, it might be a good time to head to Lafayette Park located at Gough/Sacramento/Washington/Laguna Streets to get your dose of vitamin D and let your Little B enjoy some time outside.  This park is great in that it is at the top of Pacific Heights and has amazing views of the bay and twin peaks.  It is a very popular place to go when it is nice outside and the people watching doesn't suck either.  Stop by Whole Foods on your way over and grab a picnic lunch to enjoy with you and your pooch.  Braddock and I had a blast when we spent a day here a few weekends ago :)

Organic Beet Powder

Organic beet powder is made from ripe organic red beets that are cooked, peeled, sliced, dried, and ground.  It is a natural food coloring and used in our red "Veggie Parm" treats to give them that extra pop in color.

Red beets contain a pigment called betalain which causes its red color.  The health benefits of beets include fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, and are rich in iron, potassium and niacin.  Beet powder is also known as a great herb to help build the liver.

The only drawback is it may cause tear stains in dogs with white fur.  If you have a dog that fits this description you will have to see if this is the case on an individual basis, however; given every now and then should not be a problem.

As a result we are offering a version of our "Veggie Parm" treats without beet powder to accommodate our fair fur friends.  If this is something you are interested in let us know.  The color won't be as vibrant but they will be equally delicious!
